There was plenty of room to boondock for our 42' 5th wheel. Only stayed one night. Good area to walk the dogs, even tie them out. We camped at East Fork Chulitna Wayside in a Fifth Wheel.

Nothing here but a free place to camp that is better than just a wide pulloff.

Tips from campers about East Fork Chulitna Wayside

  • User1054 The park info says you can access the park from the north via VA20 from I-64 or from the south via Mercer Springs Rd/VA20 from I-77. Either way is challenging, but I RECOMMEND COMING IN FROM I-77 for those of you driving larger motorhomes or 5th wheels. I came in on the north side from I-64 and was faced with a very narrow, winding road for the first 10 miles. I knew it was coming, but it was still an eye-opener. Pavement was in poor shape, the road had no shoulder, and there was plenty of oncoming traffic to make it sporty. Apple and Google maps will try to take you into the park on the road right before the main entrance; follow the park guidance and look for the huge brick sign at the entrance. Exiting the park I used VA20/Mercer Springs Rd to get to I-77. VA20 was great going south - plenty of shoulder and smooth pavement. Mercer Springs Rd was another windy, narrow road, but the pavement was OK and it only lasted a couple of miles. No problems on VA 20 either direction with overhead clearance from limbs (my coach is 12'10" high).

We stayed here overnight on our way to the Denali Highway. The campground is in a wooded area behind a big wayside just off the Parks Highway. There are several dry camping sites ... Most back-in and...

We were looking for a place to stay in the general area to break up a long drive. We're self-contained in our 25 foot MH and don't use the facilities. We stayed on a Thursday night in mid-July. This...

Great place for an overnight. Well spaced campsites, including one roadside pull-through just in from the north entrance. No hook-ups. There is a pit toilet. It is next to a rest stop, so there is...
