  Rosie the Riveted The town of Shelby is close with shops, restaurants, and a great brewpub. We recommend the Earl Scruggs Center and International Lineman Museum. There are several murals around town to discover as well. Slightly farther is the Kings Mountain National Military Park. This is the October 1780 battlefield of the first American victory after the British took over Charleston, SC in May 1780 during the Revolutionary War. There's a paved 1.5 mile walking loop with good signage and an optional audio tour accessible on your cell phone. Farther still is the US National Whitewater Center with man-made rapids for kayaking, rafting, ropes courses, zip-lines, and 57 miles of bike trails.
