“A hidden gem (sorta)”
Nightly Rate: $50 USD
Nice county park, quiet but just off US 101. Lots of trees, some sites need a little leveling, and an interesting agricultural museum with lot of old farming equipment displayed outside. We camped at...

“Clean and Quiet”
Nightly Rate: $50 USD
I stayed here for 5 days for the first time. It was not at all crowded at the end of January. Even though the spaces are close together I had no neighbors during my stay and it was very quiet. There...

Tips from campers about San Lorenzo Park
- Captain Dave Of Pilotsong Not close to shopping, fuel, or city stuff. The resort is approximately 9,000 feet in elevation. 3 miles north of the resort is North Lake which is used mostly by fishermen. Cuchara pass is 5 miles further to the north at 9995 elevation. The drive is very scenic and wildlife(deer, elk, bear) are often spotted during the drive. At the top of Cuchara pass is the entrance to Cordova pass. This one is not for the faint of heart or vehicle. The winding rocky road is rough. It winds past a few primitive campgrounds and a hiking trail that ends at the summit of the west Spanish Peak. The Cordova road eventually passes by the Apishapa arch then dumps out onto a bucolic paved road that leads you through Gulnare to the town of Aguilar and an entrance to Interstate 25. Surrounding the Spanish Peaks are numerous large, volcanic, rock wall formations that extend several miles from the summit. From the top of Cuchara pass Colorado highway 12 The Highway of Legends winds down past the roads to Bear Lake and Blue Lake(primitive campgrounds) to the touristy town of Cuchara with a few interesting shops, taverns, and eateries. Just past Cuchara on the right is the Yellow Pine Ranch which has horseback trail rides. C12 continues on down through the town of LaVeta which has quite a bit of essential shopping, a scenic golf course and touristy eateries.6 months ago Monument Lake Resort
- Captain Dave Of Pilotsong Theres not many services on Colorado Highway 12, so plan accordingly. Elevation listed as 7,743. The resort restaurant usually has hummingbirds zipping around just outside the windows during the summer. Colorado Highway 12 is known as the Highway of Legends National Scenic Byway and is paved the entire route. It offers stunning views of the Spanish Peaks, monument lake, north lake, Cuchara pass, Cuchara, and La Veta. The apex of Cuchara pass is just below 10,000. I have seen deer, elk, moose, and black bears along the highway. For the adventurous, at the summit of Cuchara pass is Cordova Pass (a.k.a Apishapa Pass), which is about 26 miles of bone and chassis jarring dirt road which reaches a summit of 11,284 and offers great hiking, and a beautiful mountain meadow view (with lots of wild iris and other flowers in June) about 1/2 mile from the entrance at the summit of Cuchara Pass. Further north is Churara ski area, 5 miles of dirt side road to Blue & Bear Lakes, and the quaint little tourist town of Cuchara. Yellow Pine Ranch offers horseback trail rides near Cuchara in the summer. At the north end of Highway 12 is the town of La Veta. At times it may have dozens of deer within its borders.2 years ago Stonewall Lodge & RV Park
- Andy R Often, there is great fishing over at Bear Lake about 20 minutes away. On our past trip the fish were biting like crazy. On this trip not a single bite. I think the lake is so popular you have to fish after it's been stocked or else it gets over fished and nothing. The town of Stonewall is nearby and Cuchara is not too far away.4 years ago Purgatoire Campground

Beautiful, well spaced mostly pull-thru grassy sites. Mostly level and a great mix of trees and sun. When you enter the park you will drive past a curated collection of old farm equipment, a series of...

Tip for Other Campers:
If you dont mind a bit of a drive, travel north, on 101 and find a diverse collection of wineries. Always a matter of taste, but something for everyone. I particularly enjoyed Wrath and Odonato...

“Beautiful Park nestled among trees along the river”

The camp host was wonderful; and the park and campground are very lovely. However, they only have 30 amp electrical service and the roads are very tight for our 44 fifth wheel. We camped at San...
