The entire area around Salton Sea is a tragic wasteland of abandoned motels, resorts, camprgrounds, supper clubs and all the other businesses that thrived before the lake died. California tourism...

Tip for Other Campers:

The "Salton Sea" is disappearing more each year and the salinity level makes it unfit for most fish or recreation.

Tips from campers about Salton Sea State Recreation Area, Headquarters Campground

  • rayschilke Lots of nature and attractions to see in this area of the Smokies. A dream place for motorcycle riders. It is an hour drive to more that could be seen in a week.
  • Lkldawg1 Review their website for driving routes to get there!
  • DaBoo My advice? Plan multiple Teaberry Hill trips (or spend a month ;-)). That way you have more time to spend at the camp and also explore the area (we had planned a motorcycle trip everyday for the week, I wish I would've had a day or two of just "camping" or rafting or tubing...). We enjoyed some new local back roads (many of them) for motorcycling (of course there's the Tail of the Dragon - giggle fun, but there's more roads to explore!). Fontana Dam was a well spent stop. For me, it was worth taking the time going back to Townsend: go 'up' the tail, drive the entire Foothills Parkway (all the way to end), drive back down 321 to eat in Townsend and then ride down the Little River Gorge Road - it has been my favorite road for many years. We did go "full circle" through Cherokee back to Teaberry Hill - but that was a very long day or riding - stunning - but long.

I would call this park serviceable. We had a reservation in the Mecca campground, but it was closed due to a water problem, so we were moved to this facility. It's more like a commercial RV park than...

This is a very disappointing campground for any sort of RV experience. The full hook-up sites are crowded in a straight line with little spacing between the sites. The not so leveled sites are on the...
