Tips from campers about Evan County Public Fishing Area Campground
- ETB The town of Claxton is the largest town in the immediate area and it's about 8 miles away. You'll find just about everything you need there. I highly recommend 'Cowart's Family Dining' in Claxton. They offer a truly southern buffet that has some of the best cooking in the area. It's actually just a small frame house that has been converted into a restaurant. Very charming atmosphere. The all you can eat buffet is $9.99. They are only open 11 am to 2 PM Sunday through Friday, closed on Saturday and Sunday evenings 5 pm to 9 pm. If you love southern cooking, you'll love this place. There are actually two fruitcake companies in Claxton. The Claxton Fruitcake Company has been in business over 100 years. Just north of Claxton is the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetary. It's fairly new with most interned there from the Viet Nam war and wars following it.
- John Rhea Cute little towns nearby, the closest "larger" town is about 25-30 mins away. We got some fruit cake in claxton since it was world famous.. and it was actually pretty darn good for my first fruit cake ever.
- jmadren There's a Food Lion and a few restaurants 15 minutes away in Pembroke. Savannah is 45-50 minutes. Site 9 has the best view of the water for an RV site, and probably the easiest to back a big rig into, but its sewer connection is about 30 feet up an incline. You'll need a pump or tote to use it. Don't be alarmed by distant rumbling or booms. Nearby Fort Stuart performs regular ordinance drills.

Really cute, well maintained park. We had site 14 and it was a really long pull through with fhu and a view of the lake. Would highly recommend. If you fish, you'll be in heaven! A couple nice docks...
