Tip for Other Campers:
Extremely beautiful mountain drives to Stanley no matter how you get there. The Redfish Outlet NFS campground (about 5 miles) has a nice sandy beach with great views across the lake of mountains with small glaciers.

Put your Kayak in at the public access area next to Camp Perkins and paddle/drag from Perkins lake to Alturas lake.
