“Quiet with beautiful views”
Nightly Rate: $30 USD
We enjoyed a quiet stay with cattle grazing across the road. The sites are large enough for our 40 ft Class A. The hosts were nice and helpful. We camped at Hitchcock Nature Center in a Motorhome.

Tip for Other Campers:
The Pink Poodle is a great place to eat and been there for years. Did have to go to Omaha to Shirleys Diner and get a cheese frenchy.
“Great hiking.”

They added water and sewer to half of their sites. First come first serve. We camped at Hitchcock Nature Center in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips from campers about Hitchcock Nature Center
- Garaniamal You can find plenty of things to do in the area7 months ago Ralph J Andrews Recreation Park
- rsegler Waterfalls: Bridal Veil, Dry (spectacular), Bust Your Butt, and Callusaja Falls near Highland. High Falls is very near the campground with a trail that will keep the Falls vivid in your memory (or at least your legs) for the next few days (600 ft elev change in .7 mile equivalent to up and down stairs of a 50 story building) but it is totally worth it! Theres an observation tower atop Sassafrass Mountain (the highest point in SC). Let your GPS take you on the shortcut along the French Broad River instead of Pickens Hwy for the drive-in. Totally worth it. Use Pickens Hwy (178) for the return trip. Wild Thyme Gourmet Restaurant in Highlands was awesome with the best, lightest ciabatta bread weve ever had. Food prices were reasonable but theyre pretty proud of their wine.1 year ago Ralph J Andrews Recreation Park
- Merrod The roads to get to the campground are winding and narrow but there is beautiful mountain scenery. There are lots of waterfalls nearby that you can visit. There is a restaurant near the park that has very good food.2 years ago Ralph J Andrews Recreation Park

Love this small, secluded campground. There are 2 RV areas, both lovely with electric and water at each site. (RVTW indicates no water at sites, but they put it in last year.)Also cabins and tent...

Tip for Other Campers:
We didn't go, but Ranger Chad the Younger said Henry's Diner (Nothing Finer!) in nearby Crescent is quite good.
“Beautiful, small campground in the Loess Hills of Iowa.”

Easy access to the park once you find it (be careful NOT to access from Big Lake Rd off of I-29 because they have 2 very low clearance overpasses, go a bit north & get off on the Honey Creek/Crescent...

Tip for Other Campers:
Bring cash for your stay - as a first come, first serve campground your fees are paid via an envelope in a drop box. Dont follow gps routing as you get close to the campground. Ski Hill Loop is a dead end road ending at the campground. Follow entrance sign, then campground sign.
