Tips from campers about Virden, MB

    • TerryP98072 Half laundry machines broken, old and small. Took laundry to Surf Laundry at 3833 Mt View Dr and attendant was very helpful; had newer machines that handled 4-6 loads at a wack. Done in 1 1/2 hrs. Enjoyed Trolly tour (saw a moose and calf right next to the road), visitor centers, national park stamp at Alaska Public Lands, walked part of Coastal Trail in Point Woronzof Park and saw Denali and a moose. Enjoyed fresh halibut salad and a salmon Caesar salad at Glacier Brewhouse. We agree cost of Anchorage Museum high but enjoyed exhibits.
    • Wildflowers Lots of brochures on local events & attractions in the laundromat.
    • Sue Newshutz Only 4-5 blocks from the Chester Creek bike trail access. From there, you can go throughout the whole city on bike, usually in woods without road noise (even though you're only a block from roads - amazing how they found this green space for the bike trail system!). Turnagain arm is a must see. Parking downtown is a bear for large trucks - we gave up without success. But then, we didn't want to pay for parking. Expect you need to do that. The coastal bike/walking trail is excellent. There are views of the city from Arctic Valley road in the east. Portage has the Alaskan Conservation Wildlife Refuge. The Alaska Zoo is good in Anchorage. The Native Heritage Center is great esp with the "gamers" who show off kicking skills - this is a form of native communication at a distance. Fascinating.
