“Beautiful Camp beware the GPS app”
Nightly Rate: $51 USD
We had a great stay, clean, friendly, quiet (we were early in the season) and close to the C&O Canal and the Potomac river. We camped at Ridge Rider Campground in a Travel Trailer.

C&O Canal, Rails to Trails bikeways, Paw Paw tunnel, beautiful river etc. Canoeing available in season. Beware the RVlife navigation app, it took us on a narrow one lane road (High Germany Rd) that required others to reverse up to allow us through, and then around a sharp turn and through a tunnel. Tips from campers about Ridge Rider Campground
- SherriSTravels Call campground for directions or follow signs. Otherwise, you could end up at a narrow underpass.7 months ago Ridge Rider Campground
- _261 Rail Trail. There is an asphalt path where railroad tracks were. There is a crushed gravel "tow path" trail alongside the canal. These two run parallel. At southern/western end of both (end by New Orleans or Ridge Rider campground) the rail trail ends but the tow path continues. If you start on rail trail at New Orleans, you must exit it after a mile or so as the rail trail goes thru a tunnel that is closed (bats hibernating ??). So you must exit onto the tow path and ride that for a mile? till you get past the tunnel then get back on the rail trail. They built ADA compliant ramps for you to ride/walk bike at each end of the tunnel to get in/off the rail trail.2 years ago Ridge Rider Campground

Tip for Other Campers:
We followed signs and advice and didn't have to deal with the low underpass issue to get to the site. The last several miles are definitely on a winding, downhill trajectory (on the way there). Just be cautious entering the site, and pay attention to oncoming traffic and the sides of the road.
