This is a fairly new (I believe) commercial campground with a significant number of seasonal campers and some transient camp sites. The park is in a big bowl-like valley. When we were there the grass...

Tips from campers about Frankfort Crystal Lake RV Resort

  • Bob Hud Go to downtown Frankfort and out to the beach area. Also, right up M22 to Glen Arbor (go to the Cherry Republic) is a wonderful drive. Local alpaca farm is fun!
  • Nomadsinlove Very convenient access to Frankfort, Crystal Lake and the Leelanau Peninsula and Traverse City.
  • kott Main draw is Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Start at the Philip A Hart VC and get map and information. Definitely drive the Pierce-Stocking Scenic Drive. We used the guide along app for M22 from Traverse City to Manistee and he gave us interesting tidbits about all the drives and places. I recommend doing his drive in a couple of days. Frankfort is midpoint so it was nice to do the north drive one day and the south drive another day. Some great views on Pierce-Stocking Drive. Many people go to the Dune Climb where they can climb legally. We saw people on the PS Drive going down a steep dune to the lake and were told it was not legal there but they do it anyway. Stop at the Maritime Museum in Glen Haven. We saw a Lyle Gun firing demonstration with buoy breeches rescue. Tour Fishtown in Leland. We got some local cheese from the cheese shack and local smoked salmon, trout and whitefish from Carlson's. Ate at the Cove and the seafood chowder and whitefish tacos were delicious. South of Frankfort is Inspiration Point with an amazing view. Touring the Arcadia Marsh Preserve we saw breeding pairs of swans and their offspring. We stopped at Old Facefull Artesian Spring mentioned on the guide along and tasted the clear pure artesian water from the pipe. Go to the Cherry Hut in Beulah for delicious cherry pie and products. We had to go twice for their pies made from Montmorency cherries. Lots of fruit stands along road. We did not have a chance to go to Point Betsie Lighthouse or Grand Traverse Lighthouse in Leelanau SP. Also will do the Leelanau Peninsula Wine trail next time.

Easy to get to park; Highway 31 to M115. Park is right before the metal overhang coming in to Frankfort. It can be easy to miss the sign for the campground so watch for it on the north side of M115....

Tip for Other Campers:

Go into Frankfort-literally 3 minutes from the campground. We went to Betsie Lighthouse, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park, Glen Arbor where we visited Cherry Republic. Visit Furnace Road Distillery and sit in the adirondack chairs with a cocktail. Beautiful view of Betsie Bay. In downtown Frankfort we ate lunch at Stormcloud Brewery. Also had dinner at Dos...
