  Scubagal Visit Hartwick Pines State Park in Grayling to see the old growth pines and logging museum. The Farmers Creamery in Mio has delicious ice cream and sandwiches but bring cash.

  Norchan The three major establishments we visited in town were first class. Au Sable River Outfitters has everything you might need for recreation on the river. The Family Fare Supermarkets store is big, clean and well stocked. It is light years better than many supermarkets in the suburbs of Detroit. The Ace Hardware Store is another gem. They most likely have every thing you need from bullets to lawn ornaments. They seem well equipped to meet the diverse needs of a population in an out of the way place. The hardware store is big and rambles through additions that have been added to the store over the years. Even with the size and diversity of the store, the employes know where things are and can steer you to the exact spot where your required item lurks. Visit Ace Hardware and Au Sable River Outfitters for fun even if you don't need anything specific. To our dismay, we found that many restaurants in a 20-mile radius of Mio are closed on Mondays. Other restaurants are shuttered, supposedly because of their inability to find employes. However, we lucked out with our choice of the Rose City Cafe in (you guessed it) Rose City, about 15/20 miles south of Mio. Try the Meatloaf Mountain.
