Tips from campers about Johnson's Shut-Ins State Park
- CAMiller Walmart, Fry's, and Safeway in Newport about 20 minute drive. Go at low tide to enjoy the tide pools at Seal Rock and Florence. Go at high tide to enjoy Thor's well and Devil's Churn near Yachats. A must see is the Yaquina Head Outstanding Nature Area north of Newport.4 years ago Waldport / Newport KOA Journey
- 21Judy20 Waldport has lots of cute shops. Walk on to the bridge at low tide to see all the seals and sea lions. Great sunset viewing! Newport is only 15 min away. Great old town and restaurants. Drive to Cape Perpetua for a short beautiful hike. Devils churn is amazing at high tide. Yaquina Head lighthouse and visitor center is not to be missed.4 years ago Waldport / Newport KOA Journey

Campground is beautiful. Spacious sites. Clean and well-kept. One of my favorites. We camped at Johnson's Shut-Ins State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tip for Other Campers:
Great for bike riding. Fall colors were gorgeous. Trail walking. Really nice primitive sites if youre into that. Only negative was we had no internet access. But that didnt bother me.

Tip for Other Campers:
The Shut Ins are a must, great water fun in the summer, amazing to see any time. Within a half hour or so is Elephant Rocks State Park with it's amazing geology. Fort Davidson historic site is minutes from there. Check out Arcadia, and even pop over to Lesterville for a float on the Black River.

Tip for Other Campers:
Visit the shut-ins. Just follow the boardwalk around. We did the entire loop and it wasn't really worth it. It's overgrown in some spots, lots of trees down, and you can't see what's crawling under the leaves this time of year (cottonmouths???). Thankfully, we didn't pick up any ticks.
