Tip for Other Campers:
This could be a nice campground if any effort was put into removing the weeds and sand burr plants and any type of actual lawn was put in. Olagalla (12 miles away) has a Walmart and other stores.
Tips from campers about Lone Eagle Campground - Lake McConaughy SRA
- Katmandoo Don't trust your GPS to take you the direct route to the Lake. Take I-80 to HWY 61 north through Ogallala and it will take you to the lake. The ground around the campsite has little spiky things that stuck to the bottom of your shoes and then you brought them into your camper and if you took your shoes off and tried to walk barefoot they would stick in your foot and HURT! The town of Ogallala has a little frontier town museum and an nice restaurant. My husband and I split a 12 oz. Prime Rib and it was very good. There are a few other museums in town, and a Boothill Cemetery. There are many other fast food places and a few more nice restaurants. Near Lone Eagle Campground is a restaurant called BOXCAR. We didn't eat there, but it was very close.

Anyone camped here around October 8-10? Reservations can only be made up until September 11th, then its WALK-IN (or first come, first get). Was wondering how busy this campground would be October 8-10 since reservations cannot be made for that time period....
