This was our first time camping at Fort Chuchill State Park (at the Sam Buckland Campground). The $0 nightly cost was due to having a NV Senior Annual Permit. Otherwise, it would be $15/$20 per night...

Tour the Fort Museum, the Fort site and Buckland Station. Buckland Station (maybe 1 mile south of the park) was part of the Pony Express Trail....
I picked this campground because I am a history bluff who grew up on western movies, and it was a hot day and I needed shade for my tent. It met these needs. Loved seeing the ruins of the old fort....

- 49DAY Tour the Fort Museum, the Fort site and Buckland Station. Buckland Station (maybe 1 mile south of the park) was part of the Pony Express Trail.

Tip for Other Campers:
The Carson River is close by and you may need insect repellent occasionally depending on the time of year. The Park Ranger Station at the fort sells passes for the Nevada State Park system. The counterpart to this area is Lahontan State Recreaction Area (about 10 miles north)....

Sam Buckland Nevada SP is just West off Alt 50 South of Fernley & Silver Springs. Big Rigs (we are 40' jeep dinghy) can access more than 6 pull throughs and it is shady under the cottonwood trees....
