- Chike1 Quick drive to Mingo falls, which is worth a stop. Head to GSMNP Oconaluftee visitors center in morning &/or evening to see Elk. We did see some near school which is close to campground too. Spent another day hiking loop in GSMNP near Bryson City too. Tubes available to rent there as well. Lima, OH about 7 miles north. Didn't see any national restaurant chains (except Ruby Tuesday by the mall). Major industry is a refinery and supporting companies. Typical fast food chains.
