- TomE Lot's of coastline to explore. The Chetco river greets the ocean at the edge of town, and you can follow the river up into the Chetco mountains for an interesting exploration. If you are in to hiking, and you are pretty tough, there is a hike there that will take you down into a canyon where a PBY-5A crashed in 1944. Parts of the wreckage are still visible and a monument has been erected. You can go to the Forest Service web site to find maps and access points. There are many good restaurants in the area, so feel free to explore.3 years ago Brookings Elks Lodge #1934
