“Very nice and small”
Nightly Rate: $45 USD
Nicely maintained and landscaped campground. Small, probably only a dozen or less sites. We camped at Fish House Inn and RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Check out the John Day Fossil Beds national monument. We were only able to visit the Painted Hills area due to recent fire activity in the other units and around the museum.
“Very Quiet”
Nightly Rate: $51 USD
Two nights here to visit John Day Fossil Beds. Small, well cared-for campground. No one was at the office when we arrived, so we just went to the site and set up. Site 7 (level) and the adjacent sites...

Tip for Other Campers:
Can't recommend the John Day Thomas Condon Visitor Center enough, as it provides necessary context for the park. The movie and staff were very helpful. It's closed a couple of days midweek, so keep that in mind when planning a visit--we made sure we arrived from our previous campground early enough to stop by. On our full day we visited both the Sheep Rock...

“Good Base for exploring John Day Fossil Beds”
Nightly Rate: $45 USD
I have zero complaints about this park. There are big lawn spaces, and level, gravel rv spots. We had full hook ups, but you can also dry camp or tent camp. There are chickens on the property! I loved...

It's 9 miles from the visitor's center for John Day Fossil Beds. There aren't many groceries at the local mercantile, so stock up before arrival. The mercantile is a neat old store, though, a must-see, and very friendly people. There is one restaurant in town, and no coffee shops besides getting regular coffee at the Mercantile or the convenience...

If want to swim, there is a large river park in Spray on the way to Spray, fresh fruit is for sale (cherries, peaches & apples) in Kimberly at Thomas Orchards. The cafe in Dayville that has fresh pies to die for. The store across from the cafe has tee shirts and rocks plus odds and ends you might need. If you go to John Day, you MUST see Kam Wah Chung it is...

“Greated by green grass and shade trees”
Nightly Rate: $45 USD
Small private RV park with some cabins. Two restrooms with showers and a small laundry facility. We camped at Fish House Inn and RV Park in a Travel Trailer.
Tip for Other Campers:
We stayed here based on recommendations by other RV's and the proximity to the John Day Painted Hills and fossil beds.
