We arrived late in the day and opted to visit the Mount Rushmore lighting ceremony. Tami and Bill suggested taking the Needles Highway to Mount Rushmore for some unique scenery inside Custer State park (park pass required at $20). That route took well over an hour and it was dark by the time we arrived so didnt get to see as much of the park as we wanted....

- rvhavinfun There is a beach about a mile and a half west of town. Several small museums, shops and grocery. It is a fishing, boating village. Closest large town with Walgreens and Walmart is in Crawfordville and Tallahassee is about 58 miles. - mvintx For dining, Lynns Quality Oysters and seafood was great for raw oysters and shrimp and crab but they do not have fried entrees. The Red Pirate family grill is excellent but youd better get there early. We went Tuesday at 5:30 and the wait was 30 to 40 minutes. Tip for Other Campers:
Custer has typical small town prices so Diesel fuel and groceries will be cheaper in the Rapid City area. If youre coming from the east on I-90 the Box Elder exit has cheaper fuel than most places and there is a Walmart on Hwy 16 Bypass.
