Tip for Other Campers:
The restaurant "Down home family" was closed despite google saying it was open. The park Visitor Center has a lovely boardwalk out back. And the Wildlife Refuge visitor center is very nice. This is at the south unit--the north unit in Kentucky was pretty much empty of willife or birds at the time of year. Maybe in the winter when the marshes are full of it...

Tips from campers about Reelfoot Lake State Park, South Campground
- VolFan9183 Several local restaurants have good food...catfish, burgers & steaks. There is a walk-up Dairy Queen in nearby Tiptonville that the kids loved. The Great River Road runs along the nearby Mississippi River and provides some cool views. Kids will also love the Discovery Park of America, which is about 30 minutes away in Union City, TN. They literally have a little bit of everything.
- Swampowl The restaurant "Down home family" was closed despite google saying it was open. The park Visitor Center has a lovely boardwalk out back. And the Wildlife Refuge visitor center is very nice. This is at the south unit--the north unit in Kentucky was pretty much empty of willife or birds at the time of year. Maybe in the winter when the marshes are full of it would be okay. Don't miss seeing the nesting Bald Eagle pair at the main boat ramp, around the lake halfway between the campground and the visitor center.
