Shinerbock brewery is a must. Great tour and the outdoor beer garden is a must. The barbecue served on site is very good with generous portions.

The town of Shiner is about 30 minutes south of I-10 and is small, but has a few places to pick up groceries and a few local restaurants. We took the Shiner Brewery tour and stuck around to enjoy a few beers and on-site BBQ for lunch on the lawn with live music. Spoetzl Brewery tour in town with free samples. Among others they make Shiner Bock. Friday's restaurant is good for fast food fried chicken.
