“Great place in September”
Nightly Rate: $15 USD
We lucked out with perfect weather. Highs in the 70's, lows in 50's. No bugs in late September. Leaves had not yet changed color. Pit toilets that were clean and functional. We stayed in site 13 which...

Tip for Other Campers:
While the ferry ride to Madeline Island was interesting the first time, it is a time sink. We spent over an hour each way (mostly wait time) for the ferry and of course it is not inexpensive - about $100 each way. And yes, we like to slow down on camping trips and enjoy the journey but we felt like it was just unproductive time on a travel day. On the...

Overall it was a good stay. All the sites are private. We were by the main bathroom and it did smell from time to time. Beach was nice but no pets are allowed. You should definitely go to the picnic...

Tips from campers about Big Bay State Park
- Flora and Fauna While the ferry ride to Madeline Island was interesting the first time, it is a time sink. We spent over an hour each way (mostly wait time) for the ferry and of course it is not inexpensive - about $100 each way. And yes, we like to slow down on camping trips and enjoy the journey but we felt like it was just unproductive time on a travel day. On the positive side, the hiking was great with starting points close to the camp ground. The Bay View trail was an easy hike with wide, smooth trails and wonderful views of the bay and lake. There are spots on this trail to stop and sit or climb out on large flat rocks. We loved it. Lagoon Ridge trail is a more rustic trail of moderate difficulty and for us we had to hike out and back since we had dogs. This trail is through boreal forest and pleasant enough but no spectacular views. T-mobile cell phone service is spotty to nonexistent in the campground but improved to a good signal along the Bay View trail.6 months ago Big Bay State Park

“Lovely park with spacious, woody sites on the small island in a big lake. ”

We visited this park for four nights in July 2023. We stayed at an electric site for three of those nights and then moved to a non-electric site for our last night. We wouldve loved to have stayed an...
