Visit the refuges. Valentine NWR had many lakes and ponds--lots of ducks. Bison herd at the other refuge. The BBQ in town was tasty but they do sell out.

Donut Taco had great donuts(go early) and lunches--reasonably priced. Quilters check out Sew Loved on Norton St--good selection of fabrics and batiks. Bring cash to pay for your site.

If you've never been to this part of NM/AZ, stock up before arriving; you really are away from stores and gas (there is gas available about 20 miles away and small stores with basic provisions like beer and bread.)
