My tip would be go to Roanoke Rapids just a little further up I95. Stayed there on the trip south and it was lovely.
This park is very convenient to the area of Williamsburg and Jamestown. We came specifically to visit a very ill person in a facility nearby. Only stayed one night, but our visit was delightful....

We loved visiting the historical sites in the park and surrounding area. If you get a chance to visit Smith Fort Plantation and Bacon's Castle, do so. Also, if you want Excellent Virginia ham, be sure to visit an old family owned Edwards Hams which is very nearby. Tip for Other Campers:
We toured Berkley Springs, West Va. One day. The second day we toured downtown Winchester and the Winchester Gardens/Museum which is very near the campgrounds. The fall foilage was just beautiful.
