Yes, you do have to cross highway 101 if you walk from the campground. You could also drive there as there is parking at that spot....

Hwy 101 is simply a two lane highway and not particularly busy at all except during commute times and even then is simple to cross with common sense.There is a trail (about 150yds) leading from the campground to the beach. I will caution you about parking at the beach parking area as it's not a busy lot and our vehicle was broke into and the window shattered the one time we did park there. Luckily they caught the thief and charges are pending as we speak....

There's a trail inside the campground that leads to Hwy 101, which you cross to get into Lost Creek State Park. It's a 2-lane highway with left turn lanes, not a freeway. It's also straight, so you can see cars coming from pretty far off. The speed limit looks like 55 mph per Google maps street view, but with the left turn lane you've got a place to stand if it's busy. We were there in late fall, so there was no traffic to speak of....
