Wilderness State Park
Question:
Fri Apr 04 2025We will be camping in Wilderness campground in early August 2025. We’re coming from Southern California, am I going to be eaten alive by mosquitos? We have them in CA, but not like in MN. We will be arriving from Battle Lake, MN camping close the lake w/is heavily covered by trees and the mosquitos are pretty thick unless there is a good breeze. Can you describe what the mosquito situation is like? If it’s a lot, can you recommend somewhere where it’s not so buggy near this area? TIA...

Michigan mosquitos love May, June, and the beginning of July. You should be okay in August. Michigan has mosquitoes, black flies, and a real developing population and problem with ticks. Any anti bug lotion with deet helps. If you’re in the woods or trails wear long pants or shirt for protection....

We stayed there in mid-July and had no problems with mosquitos. We were in the Pines loop which is a little farther from the lake....
