Question:
Mon Mar 28 2022My GPS says there is no RV safe route to get here! But I'm assuming you all do that. What way in would you suggest for a 31 foot class A? Thanks!...

That's not correct. You take 64 out to route 12 that runs right out past the campground to the end of the Cape. Two lane paved rd. All the way. Just don't pull off the road for any reason because the sand gets deep on the sides of the roads. They actually use bulldozers to remove sand that blows across the roads from the duns. But is is a fin two lane highway straight to the campground entrance. We stayed there in our 24' Class C. Loved it....

Stiles answer is correct, and your GPS is oddly not. :) Make sure GPS isn't putting you on a ferry (which would be arriving via the south end of the islands.) Instead, travel to Hatteras from the north end on Hwys 264/64 & 12. The highways coming in are very flat, plenty wide enough, and well maintained. There were HUGE rigs in this campground when we were there. You won't have any trouble if you stick to the state highways and main roads....

I go down there a lot with my 36’ travel trailer. Going from 168/158 to NC 12 take you right to the campground. Very nice roads and definitely no problems navigating. Now that is coming south…..not sure where you are coming from. Nice campground BTW. Headed back second week of May. Happy travels....

Yep, what they all said. Now, let it be known that after a large storm the road south down the cape is often closed for the clearing efforts. I had our Apple Maps and Waze tell us we couldn't get there before the last November Camp until the road was reopened. Go For It....

We took 64 to 12 from North and had no issues with our 40ft MH with tow. Park is easy to get in and out as well....

March 22 at 4:29 PM · It’s almost ready! Today, we put the finishing touches on the Rodanthe Bridge metal railing, and are currently grinding pavement on the bridge deck to smooth out driving surfaces while a contractor for Cape Hatteras Electric installs the hangers and pipes that will eventually carry electric, phone and internet lines to Hatteras & Ocracoke Islands. After that comes anti-hydroplaning grooves and lane markers… and then we hope to open the new bridge to traffic in the first half of April, weather permitting!Check out NC route 12 facebook page for the latest....
