Tips from campers about Otter Lake Campground
- OlafsDad McGreggor, Iowa is fairly close and worth the trip despite the terrible road construction making it difficult to navigate in recent years (ask the camp staff for advice on updated routes but hopefully the mess will finally be completed in 2024). Our favorite place there is a 3 story book store called, The Paper Moon, but its not just books! The owner does a great job stocking so many eclectic and nostalgic things that we often start our Christmas shopping there. Old Man River is a great microbrewery and restaurant with quirky owners that always makes us feel like locals (despite visiting just one week a year). There are several additional bars and stores to visit in town, and we hope that more will reopen soon after they finally finish the multi year road construction that hurt many. In previous years, weve even rented pontoon boats and explored the Mississippi River!Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin is just a few minutes further over the river and provide even more dining and shopping options, as well as historic sites including the Villa Louis mansion. Both sides of the river offer state parks with very nice hiking trails overlooking the Mississippi, with interesting finds like caves and hidden waterfalls. There are so many things to do in this area that we usually stay for 2 weekends and especially enjoy exploring during the week when the crowds are rare (Even the state parks are rarely crowded, but we enjoy having the places to ourselves).6 months ago Spook Cave & Campground
- GPAof2 When checking and going over the creek stay to the left. Bump may cause car to drag.6 months ago Spook Cave & Campground
- MinjimB There are a lot of small towns near the park but Prairie Du Chien is close by and has a lot of historical sites to visit and some nice shopping (The Cannery was huge!) We also were close to Pike's Peak (great views of the Mississippi and good walking trails) and Effigy mounds National Monument (historical significance with very nice walking trails and some view of the Mississippi valley. Rangers were very informative and friendly). We did take the hour drive to Field of Dreams in Dyersville which was neat if you are into that.2 years ago Spook Cave & Campground
