Gravel parking lot at the entrance to the Wilcox Playa, home of wintering Sandhill Cranes. Right on the road but not much nighttime traffic. Note that the "viewing area" is a flat, 1.2 mile hike one...

Tip for Other Campers:
Water levels are so low this year (2021) that all we saw here were bands of the cranes flying in the distance. Whitewater Draw is a much better place to view the cranes and you can camp free there as well.

Tip for Other Campers:
If it is raining, be prepared for muddy conditions on the nature trail to the Crane viewing area. There is a nice bench at the end of trail for viewing. The round trip hike is about 2.6 miles.
