Tip for Other Campers:
Perfect for RVs to close for tent camping unless you like your neighbors. They have day spots if you have friends me up with you for the day or if you are passing by and neeed a place to stop rest or eat.
Tips from campers about Portuguese Joe Campground
- Tucker12 Mt Rushmore. Felt Crazy horse was expensive for what we saw - $30 and they really have made no progress on the monument since late 80's. Presidential was museum and mini golf are free admission with your park receipt - worth the time to go. Custer State Park. Ate at Peggy's home diner - nice. Went to Custer dog park twice - nice site. Downtown Custer was good - Keystone was very commercial - felt like an amusement park.

Stayed in a 34 5th wheel. Spaces in my opinion are tight. Low hanging branches kept us out of most of the sights. Nice small creek running through the campground. Fire pits and tables. Pit toilets....

Tip for Other Campers:
Alabama Hills cafe had fantastic breakfast and lunch (111 West Post Street, open 7a-2p), make all their own baked goods (bread, pastries, pie, etc) and very fresh tasty meals.
