The park is 11 miles from Cortez and 34 miles from Durango. We visited both - Cortez for a Walmart run and fuel, Durango for a nice day trip. Unfortunately we were in between seasons for the train to Silverton and could not ride it. They do run it during the winter. The park is only 1/2 mile from the Mesa Verde National Park entrance. The town of Mancos is so charming. You must go. Great places to eat. Suggest Monday Cafe. Excellent and the pastries are amazing. Columbine bar and grill as well as The Boathouse on Grand.
