Tips from campers about Mountain Home Air Force Base, ID

  • ErinandCorbin If you're going to Mackinac Island, the Arnold line is far cheaper and more pleasurable ride. More typical to the old ferry rides, then the high speed fan tail ferries. If time is important to you, take Star Line, but if not, enjoy the 30 min. ride on the Arnold. In fact, you can get a 2-day roundtrip on Arnold for less then a 1-day trip on the Star Line.
  • a3almfire Take the ferry over to Mackinaw Island. If you have bikes, take them on the ferry to the island. If you dont have bikes, you can rent some on the island. Theres also a horse drawn wagon tour that you can take on the island. There are a couple of bar/grills in St. Ignace that overlook the water that have good food.
  • lcb1 We took the ferry over to Mackinac Island 2 days. The first day we did pick up from the campground and the 2nd day we drove into town and parked free in the lot. We rented bikes from Mackinac Wheels the 2nd day and highly recommend them. We also saw historic sites in Mackinaw (south side of the bridge), Whitefish/Maritime Museum, Tahquamenon Falls (eat dinner/grab a brew at the restaurant!!), and drove into Canada for the Agawa Train Ride. Great location!
