We stayed fairly close to comfort station, and found it a busy traffic site. Well shaded, and good water, trash removal, had picnic tables and campfires are allowed. Most sites are pretty well...

Tip for Other Campers:

Expect to do laundry, shopping, and eating out elsewhere, as there are no sewer hook ups, and no laundry facilities. No real eateries or shopping except for Muncie, or New Castle.

Tips from campers about Prairie Creek Reservoir

  • Idunno The steam train ride is the main (maybe the only) reason to visit this area and it's a great adventure. The tracks back up against the campground so you get to see the train twice each day. Not many choices for restaurants or groceries and some restaurants aren't open 7 days a week though to be fair, I visited the area late September and that may have had an effect. You could walk to the train station if desired.
  • Road_Runner Doing the train of course! A little shopping in town with a few cute shops. Beautiful scenery out of town to NE. Some mosquitoes out around 6ish while cooking out. But not bad.
  • Scott and Lorraine Enjoy a scenic and Historic rail experience on the Cumbres and Toltec Railway. The station is walking distance from the Rio Chama RV Park. The Twist Resturant had good food an a fair Price.
