Tips from campers about Onamia, MN

  • Joan2757 Bathrooms and dump station were closed but there was a dump station in the nearest town
  • Rotten Roy Two Kathio pluses, one in the park and one outside. The park has an outstanding interpretive center. Lots to see and do. Would be great for kids. Just outside the park is the Mille Lacs Indian Museum and Trading Post in Mille Lacs. It has has lovely items for sale and display. And when we were there, the museum offered a half-day birchbark basketmaking workshop taught by a local Ojibwe artist who is exceptionally gifted in basketmaking. This class was fantastic (an experience of a lifetime) and more than made up for the bugs abundance at the campground. Class attendance is limited to 20; registration needs to be made well in advance of arriving. Check with MN Historical Soc for class availability and registration.
  • MrsShoultz There is a local cafe in Onamia called Cedarwood. Great homemade food! We used to goto Chico's place for margaritas, but they are now closed. There is an antique place called Hairy Mosquito farther south on 169. That's always fun. Bring your side-by-side!!!
