Tips from campers about Orr, MN
- skhallig Ash-Ka-Nam restaurant about half a mile down the road was fantastic, great food and staff. We preferred Gateway General Store just north on Highway 53 over Jims right at the end of Ash River Trail for gas and snacks as far as price and service. Kabetogama Outdoors on the road to Kabetogama Lake Visitor Center has fantastic ice cream. Closest grocery stores are in Cook or International Falls. We used International Falls (about 45 minutes away) as we wanted to visit Rainy Lake Visitor Center there also (and cross the border for Tim Hortons in Fort Frances, ON). Of the three visitor centers we visited, we preferred Ash River Visitor Center for kayak launch & star gazing. Take one of the guided boat tours through the NPS. We did the Discovery Tour out of Rainy Lake Visitors Center & really enjoyed it.2 years ago Ash Riviera RV Resort
- TerryP98072 Dump, fill up with water and bring food before arriving. Gas at Hwy 53 and Ash River Trail (grocery part looks a little sparse). Gas and bigger selection of groceries at Gateway General Store at Hwy 53 and Gamma Road, corner where you turn to go to Kabetogama Visitor Center. (Don't forget to stop for the Leapin' Walleye Fish Photo Op;-) Full-sized grocery in Orr 26 miles away or International Falls 36+ miles away. If you have to dump stay at Ash Riviera Resort up the street; all of Chris 20 RV sites have full hookups. He also sells ice, firewood and rents boats from canoes and kayaks to pontoons boats to walk-ins. Get Voyageurs boat tour tickets before you arrive, they do sell out and don't hold any extras. Had a burger/beer whitefish basket at Ash Ke Nam Resort at end of Ash River Trail and was pricey at $70 for dinner. If you go towards Rainy Lake Visitor Center, take a left at 11 instead of a right in International Falls and drive towards the museum to see the 26' statue of Smoky the Bear in town.2 years ago Ash River - Kabetogama State Forest
- DesertBoat_140 Voyageurs is all about boating, mostly fishing. If you are not into that, don't need to spend much time here. Take one of the guided boat tours. Do not forget bug spray.3 years ago Ash Riviera RV Resort
