Tips from campers about Rye, NH
- KathyMcP This park has miles of paved hike/bike trails. We saw just a couple of other people on them during our stay. .5 miles away is an outstanding Air and Space Museum--the Strategic Air Command Museum. Senior price was $13, we spent 4 hours there. Also nearby is the Holy Trinity Shrine--a spectacular piece of architecture on the prairie. We went through the 14 Stations of the Cross, which were especially poignant since we know Jesus did all that for us. The chapel itself was closed that day because they are re-roofing it. It is a wonderful place of peace and contemplation. We went to Lincoln, which was a traffic zoo. Our tourist time was probably better spent anyway helping a young man with his car problems. So we opted out of going to Omaha--it seems the cities are going down. Ashland is near enough for fuel and light groceries. We also stocked up on food and got diesel fuel at Costco a bit farther.3 years ago Eugene T Mahoney State Park
- Warnockers Mahoney has a small number of "full hookup" sites and they fill up really quickly. They have a much larger number of electricity only sites (including the one that we stayed at - Site 54). A lot of their sites are NOT reservable. They are "walkup reservation" only. Typically, if you arrive on a Wednesday you will have no trouble getting whatever site you want. Thursday morning will bring a more limited selection and by Thursday evening it will be slim pickings.9 months ago Eugene T Mahoney State Park
- Bawn Lots to do in the area. SAC Museum and Wildlife Safari are next door. Lots do do in the park, too. For dinner, we suggest Parker's BBQ near Ashland.5 months ago Eugene T Mahoney State Park
