We stayed to hike in the hills, so the fact that there is little to do in the immediate area was hardly a problem. Most people visit Fort Tic, which is interesting, and there is a wonderful view from the top of Mt Defiance (also a great workout if you leave your vehicle at the bottom and hike to the top - probably for hardcore crazies).
