This is a great option for an overnighter. It's located right on a city-owned park along the Llano River, so it's got a nice view. It's essentially a parking lot with sites marked off, so all sites...

Tips from campers about Badu Park

  • Kona Boy Tips for Visitors: (1) If you plan to visit, always assume that it may/will rain. (2) If you are visiting the Big Island and have a time-limited schedule, consider other more accessible ocean front parks closer to Hilo and/or north of Hilo along the Hamakua Coast (e.g., Lauphoehoe Beach Park.) Nearby Sites: Isaac Hale Park is located 2.4 miles north of MacKenzie Park. The park is worth a visit. It is a public park with a sometimes-monitored entry gate, a swimmable beach staffed with a lifeguard, portable restrooms, and its website claims the park's facilities are ADA accessible.

This is a city owned and ran park. This is a big parking lot so all sites are paved and back in. Our back window had a view of the park and Llano river. All utilities are located in back along the...
