Tips from campers about Grantsville, WV

  • Wrvond Though this campground is open to the public, it is designated as a Dark Sky Site and priority is given to amateur astronomers - especially during the new moon. Campers are asked to be considerate and observe dark sky rules, such as no white lights or campfires during these events. The astronomers in attendance are always happy to perform public outreach and education. I recommend a walk around the park during the day to talk to different people to find out what kind of astronomy they are doing and arrange to come back after sunset to enjoy the views. During the day there are trails that can be walked or biked with an historic "Heritage Town" on the property. The town of Grantsville is about a ten minute drive north and has a small grocery store, a dollar store and gas station.
