Hendersonville is very nice downtown and has plenty of shops and places to eat. Pretty close to I-26 but not so close that you get road noise.

Hops BBQ in Asheboro is an institution and is worth a visit for good bbq or a reasonable meal. We went to the Hamilton Steakhouse for brunch and it was excellent. The antique stores in Asheboro are worth a visit.

The Civil War Museum in New Market is well worth seeing. Go to Harrisonburg for Walmart and Barnes and Noble if desired. Supermarket in Timberville.

Visit Lititz and Wilburs Chocolate. Visit Fox Meadows Creamery for ice cream. You wont regret it. Go to Intercourse for the shops and Blue Ball for the Shady Maple Market nearby.
