Minutes away from San Simeon and Hearst Castle (TAKE THE TOUR!!!), and the vibrant small town of Cambria. Be sure to visit both the east and west sides! Lots of great not your typical tourist trap shops, a cowboy style saloon, restaurants, parks and more. 15 minute drive to the beginning of the Paso Robles wine district and 40 minutes to the seaside...

We've stayed here many times. Always a great experience. Campsite had decent drainage during the rain, except around the fire pit. There was a big puddle. The sites along the back are better during...

Lots of trails. Beach has some bautiful colorful pebbles and sea glass. Nearby Cambria, we like Linn's Famous Pie shop which has delicious pies and pot pies for sale and Boni's Tacos for great burritos.
Tips from campers about Hearst San Simeon State Park, Washburn Campground
- LizzyWA Pull into the parking lot next to the campground and walk to find your perfect site. The interior roads are a little confusing and tight.
- Russ Haire Make the trip down the road to Kootenai falls. As others said, there is a nice grocery store and big Ace Hardware right next to the campground.
- jprisbe Be sure to check out the Heritage Museum in town (one of the best I have been to) and the swinging bridge and Kootenai falls outside of town.

Tip for Other Campers:
The elephant seals, about ten minutes up highway 1 (along the coast), are a must see. The adult males look like they are from another planet. And it was mating season, so a lot was going on. Also, the nearby town of Cambria is worth a visit. We had a nice dinner there.
