Tips from campers about Austin, MN

  • Ray and Lisa Johnson This is in a perfect location to see Great Sand Dunes National Park, Zapata Falls, Creede (mining trails), Big Meadows Reservoir and Wolf Creek Pass/Continental Divide. Mexican restaurant within walking distance.
  • retiree19 There's a great tap house and pizzeria over on the road to Pagosa Springs. Conveniently enough it's called Mountain Pizza and Tap House. They have a large selection of beers both local, national and international. Check out their method of serving! I think it's pretty cool. Pizza is good too. Ramon's a little further down the road is good for Mexican Food. The town of Creede is worth a visit for sure. Turn right out of the campground and it's about 1/2 hour away. It's a nice old mining town with a great underground mining museum. The museum tour is short and cool both in an esthetic sense and temperature wise. It's cold enough in there that they have a rack of loaner coats for people to wear. I can't resist a mountain hardware store and Tomkins Hardware and Lumber fit the bill. I bought an extra pair of Channelocks and found out later they were over $5 cheaper than my local Home Depot. There are scenic attractions everywhere, including tons of waterfalls. We were there during the spring runoff so in high summer water flow will be reduced but they'll still be pretty.
  • Larli Side by sides welcome
