“Beware the Cactus”
Nightly Rate: $0 USD
This is an open field by the fort. We found a spot on the left side of the road in the trees. We were letting our dog run in the field on the right side of the road and she stepped on a small cactus...

“Great, peaceful dry camping spot for free.”
Nightly Rate: $0 USD
We stayed here one night to visit the Confluence Center, Ft. Buford and the fort Union Trading post nearby. We parked in an open field. A wild turkey crossed the field that evening. Note that this is...

Tips from campers about Fort Buford Campground
- MEdwardR Sonny's Diner in Hatteras was friendly and fast. Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is close and worth the visit.
- n2916s If you are going to fish, pick up a North Carolina license at any bait shop. ORV permits for the beach and campsite reservations are at Recreation.Gov.
- GoingNoWhereFast 4x4 on the beach is $50 for a 10day pass. No one day pass. The beach can be crowded if the fish are biting. Much Nice than the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse Campground

Campground Basics: State Historic Site CG with NO Services and NO Fees. Space for 3 RVs or tents. Campsites set in a small grove of tall shade trees. No designated campsites, but we did identify 3...

Although there were no hook-ups, it was perfect for an overnight stay. Our site was shaded and spacious. The restrooms were part of the historic site and not the campground. They would probably have...
