Question:
Thu Nov 07 2024I tried to reserve a site, but it looks booked out for as long as I could scroll. Any tips on getting a reservation or do sites get booked and then cancelled closer to the dates so I should just keep checking for my desired dates?...

Unfortunately, you have to reserve a site almost a year ahead. 6 months minimum. Heck people make reservations a year in advance in person while they're still at the park. Sorry, but it is what it is. Good luck....

A race to reserve at midnight one year from your arrival date. If beyond that then keep trying and might run into an opening from cancellation. There are some overflow sites you might check at the ranger station. Great park, good luck!...

Agree, a year out is best, it seems at pretty much all AZ state parks. However, a few times I just kept checking at 6-7 am with my morning coffee and scored available cancellations....

It’s a popular park and (too) close to Tuscon but we had luck booking during the week....

Check for cancelations and also try to book one or two days at a time rather than a number of days. Then another day may be open if you are open to moving. It is really hard to get into....

Here is the deal on Catalina. It’s open all year but busy only half that time ( seasonal park). In July it’s 10% occupied with afternoon temps between 100-115. Still, a great park if you get up early but it’s also hard to get a fiberglass box to cool off much more than 20 degrees beyond outside temps. So if you are having trouble getting a reservation that would be Nov to April. Even then there is hope. If you live close you can call the ranger station about 11 am. Best to try Sunday to Wednesday and ask about cancellations. The online reservation system is also pretty good. It looks full all winter but if you check often there are openings but they go away fast so if you see an opening take it. It’s only $5 to cancel so tie it down when you see an opening. It is a great park adjacent to a city of a million people with all the services you can imagine yet it seems remote, full of wildlife with ancient history and mysterious mountains. It’s worth the effort. W...

Because of snow we had to change plans and stay South. We got reservations 10 days before arriving at Catalina State Park. We have done this for many popular parks. Just keep checking everyday....

I'm seeing some availability on the Arizona State Parks website, even in December and January. Maybe only one or two nights available on any given site, but like others have said, it's a seasonal park. If you want stay during the cooler months, it's best to plan much further out....

I have to agree with what everyone else has said. It's a pretty popular park - that said though, life happens and people cancel, so keep trying, you never know!...

Aloha rvlife_66c78928029ed: I typically try to book on line; however, I suggest calling the reservation desk and requesting assistance from an agent in booking several sites: i.e. Hooping around from one site to another during your stay. In in past, I have found a phone call works really well because the agent is motivated to help you plan your stay. I also agree with several other RVers who have successfully booked a site by systematically tracking on-line cancellations. Take Care and Safe Travels!...
