Tips from campers about Banff National Park, AB
- Gerdog Highly recommend the 80 mile drive from Lake Louise on the Ice Fields parkway to the Ice Fields discovery center or all the way to Jasper. We couldnt go to Jasper as the town i still recovering from the brutal fire in 2024. The tour to the Athabasca Glacier from the Discovery Center was the highlight of our trip. Its a not to miss if you are there between June and September!6 months ago Lake Louise Hard-Sided Campground
- Gerdog Try to get a spot on the outside loop section B higher numbers for an unobstructed view of the Rocky Mountain range6 months ago Tunnel Mountain Village II Campground
- BillReno Let's talk about parking......we were there on the shoulder season and parking wasn't too bad but we always got there EARLY. By the time we were done with our hiking, shopping, etc the lots were full. So go early or take the bus (which we did to the gondola and were glad we did because the lot was full). The ROAM bus system is pretty easy to navigate. If you are going to town there is alot of free parking at the train station (~10 min walk into the heart of town from there). But again we got there early and by the time we were leaving at noon time people were lining up for our space. Town is crowded. Tourists are awful. So driving downtown is no fun. Don't follow your GPS - just look at a map and you can easily find side streets that will be easier to maneuver. If you have a large vehicle (we have a Ford F150) - I would recommend staying away from the garages. The spaces are tight. And, if they are full you have no great place to turn around. There are a couple of street lots, on street parking and the train station that are all much easier. Take some time to walk along the Bow River thru town. The 360 degree views are awesome. We really enjoyed Sunshine Meadows. First you take a gondola 3.5 miles (yes you read that correctly) and it makes a 90 degree turn (have never seen that!). Then you can take a chairlift even higher. Where you will find a spectacular viewing platform and some hiking trails. There were hardly any people there compared to in/around Banff.6 months ago Tunnel Mountain Village II Campground
