This is a small park in terms of number of sites, mostly tent camping. We camped in site 16 which is park of the RV loop--basically the only sites which easily accommodate an RV. Our site had a very...

Tips from campers about Ricker Pond State Park

  • Mattputput Near DC and full of history to be visited
  • CurmudgeonAtLarge No campground wifi here wed love to see that as a future upgrade! We had excellent cell phone service through Verizon, though, so we were still able to read our iPads and watch TV at night, although we did have to bump up our hotspot plan to make that happen. We experienced a day of really torrential rainfall, and an absolutely enormous rig pulled by a semi cab came in at the end of the day and got totally stuck trying to back into its site. Everything had drained by the next day, so they were able to get into a pull-through site with no problem. Id say if you drive an abnormally large, heavy rig, definitely reserve a pull-through if the ground is saturated when you get there! About the surrounding area: We visited two local wineries Ingleside Vineyards and Backporch Vineyard. Ingleside is a beautiful venue with inside and outdoor seating and a very nice gift shop. Backporch is more rustic, but the real winner as far as our taste buds went a nice cabernet and interesting reds. Definitely recommend visiting both! Also, the Food Lion carries a small selection of wine and beer, and the ABC store is in the same shopping center. We picked up some fantastic North Carolina-style pork BBQ from Willeys in town on Washington Ave. - still on winter hours now, so only open Thursday-Sunday. I imagine that changes for the summer season. The Food Lion supposedly carries their BBQ also, but we couldnt find any when we went there on a Monday we would have brought some home if wed found it!
  • Michelle Ledbetter Colonial beach is nice and ideal if you want a non commercial beach.
