Thomson is a very nice COE campground. It's well-kept. I don't think we saw any park personnel during our stay (other than the check-in office) so service is rated low but we also didn't need anyone....

Thompson doesn't have a ton to offer, it's mostly just a small town. Savanna to the north is larger, right on the water, and there's another state park with hiking trails just up from Savanna. Poopy's is a "biker" bar/grill in Savanna and a local attraction. Clinton is fairly close to the south of the campground across into Iowa and has plenty of shopping...

This is a fairly remote campground, know your location. Calamus is about 15 minutes north, Dixon is about 15 minutes south (there is a bridge right near the campground crossing the river) but these are both tiny towns without many amenities.
