Tips from campers about Calamus, IA

  IA_Travelers This is a fairly remote campground, know your location. Calamus is about 15 minutes north, Dixon is about 15 minutes south (there is a bridge right near the campground crossing the river) but these are both tiny towns without many amenities. Make sure you have what you need before you get here! However, a scenic drive to a bigger town is nice! The Wapsi is great for river activities but be sure to check water levels as it does get low enough that kayaks/canoes/boats will be nearly unpassable; likewise, flood season can be dangerous due to debris in the water. You can put a tent on a site with a camper if wanted. You can call the main county office for information about the campground.

  HankfromSea The owners daughter runs a little pub not far from the park. Just a local place to wet your whistle and meet some new friends.
